Western Society taught us that feelings are a sign of weakness, it’s childish!

And definitely, there shouldn’t be any display of emotions in public or even at home.

Especially the negative emotions have been banished and looked down on.

Even if you think you’re leaving your emotions at the door, you’re experiencing several emotions a day.

You’re boss sends you an annoying task at the last minute = you’re feeling annoyed or even anxious. You’r partner doesn’t show up on time as promised = feeling angry or even betrayed. And so on.

There’re so many emotions one experiences in a day. And even if nothing major happened that day, you’re wondering:

Why am I feeling drained? Why am I feeling irritated?

We haven’t learnt to feel our feelings in a healthy way.

Learning to feel ones feelings isn’t about to be touchy feely all the time.

It’s about becoming in tune with yourself, your needs and creating a true feeling of safety within. To create a strong centre within which holds you even when the biggest emotions hit you.

And if we continue to suppress our emotions, they get stored in the body - the body stores it all.

This can show up with burnout, or you feel as your body is separated from you or with time you can experience chronic pain or illness. Very common signs of suppressed emotions are sleep issues as well as neck, shoulder, back and knee problems.

Emotions need to be felt and/or expressed to be able to liberate yourself and make clearer decisions.

BUT there is a time and place to feel your feelings. And it shouldn’t be in a work meeting.

There our strong inner centre comes to play, where we witness emotions arise within, we are aware of it. We then know that we can hold ourselves as our inner centre is strong. But instead of suppressing it (plot twist) we create specific time at home or where you feel safe to feel and express your emotions either alone or you ask someone to hold space for you.

This is crucial to be able to have a long and healthy life as well as to be able to make better decisions as we have more space in our body and mind as we release and express instead of store, hold and suppress.
